IDEAS FOR SUCCESS

  • Set a goal on how many pounds you want to collect ( i standard can weighs approximately 1 pound)
  • Challenge another group/business to meet your donations
  • Incorporate a theme: for example TGIF (take groceries in Friday)
  • Stage a friendly competition in your neighbourhoods, school or office and have a treat for the winners!
  • Invite staff person from the Soup Kitchen to speak to your group
  • Schedule a tour of the Soup Kitchen for a visual reminder of the reality of poverty and hunger
  • Publicize the suggested food list within your organization
  • Advertise your event at the local grocery store, in church bulletins and through email
  • Use your theme to decorate boxes for food
  • Visually display the food that has been collected to encourage others to contribute
  • Involve children and youth
  • Sponsor a canned food sculpture contest
  • Update people on the progress of your food drive
  • Designate a special time or day to bring food
  • Hold an event or meeting where admission is cans of food
  • Have a car wash where the price of wash is cans of food
  • Have a committee bring the food to the Soup Kitchen and have a tour
