The Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen Community Centre is to provide services to encourage self-sufficiency and improve quality of life through reducing hunger and its effects. And, further, to protect children and develop social skills through the Brighter Beginnings Children’s Program.
The Soup Kitchen strives to heighten awareness of the public’s responsibility to address and prevent poverty. This is accomplished in an atmosphere of compassion and respect as follows:
To provide a hot nutritious meals to people who are experiencing financial difficulties
To provide advocacy in accessing other services such as health services, employment services, and housing needs
To ensure a safe, friendly, and non-judgmental environment
To promote education through various programs which are designed for young children
To work together and support each other in our daily lives
The Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen Community Centre is a registered charity governed by a Board of Directors, by staff, and volunteers who are dedicated:
To address the needs of those who live in poverty by providing a safe place to eat, socialize, get information and attend programs.
And to provide a nurturing Children’s Program offering education, recreation and social activities.
Advocate and educate the public on social justice issues.
